With a long -range goal of developing my love for writing cathartically,
into a successful career in the Film industry, it’s important to research the
trends of relevant trade associations. Rhonda Abrams, author of Successful
Business Plan says, “ It’s important to do your homework. Sufficient research
prevents you from including inaccurate information in your plan… and enables you
to make informed decisions.”[1] Trade and Industry Associations can be the most
reliable source for data and information. They can also be used to help locate potential
customers, suppliers, or opportunities to attend trade shows or festivals.
Florida Film Festival
The Florida Film Festival held April 5 -15, 2013, in
Winter Park, Florida was a smashing success for the film industry. Full Sail
University had the prestigious responsibility of hosting this year 22nd Annual Event. Seen Above.
As the industry in Florida has been recognized as one of the largest in the United States. The year round warm weather of Florida has attracted such hit films as Bad Boys I and II, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the Punisher. Opportunities like the film festival can serve to persuade critical decision making, such as the location for the production of a film. The accomplishments of the recent Festival symbolize a growing trend in the Florida Film Industry.

In recent years more attraction has been shifting away from
Miami and stimulated towards central Florida, including Tampa and Orlando
areas. Many of the States are charged
with the duty of creating attractive programs that would stimulate the
financial growth of the area.
In California, one program of the CA Film Commission offers
tax incentives to attract film developers. This helps maintain good jobs within
the Golden State. CA Gov. Brown signed to extend the bill on August 31, 2012. Research shows results were achieved, but some
say the outcomes fall short of what was hoped. Writer for the Los Angeles Times,
Richard Verrier believes the reason the state gets few takers for relocation. Verrier
says “Although California offers a
higher tax credit for relocating television series (25% of qualified expenses
compared with 20% for other types of productions), the state gets relatively
few takers because of the program's limited funding and competition from more
than 40 states that offer tax breaks.”
The Tampa Bay
Film Commission successfully meets the demand to offer programs that attract
projects which stimulate financial growth. The recent efforts have been
effective with such hits like Dolphin Tale, Magic Mike and Spring Breakers and other projects to the
area. The hope is to build a "job-creating and revenue-producing
organization" by 2013.
