Film Industry Trade Association impacts the artists

With a long -range goal of developing my love for writing cathartically, into a successful career in the Film industry, it’s important to research the trends of relevant trade associations. Rhonda Abrams, author of Successful Business Plan says, “ It’s important to do your homework. Sufficient research prevents you from including inaccurate information in your plan… and enables you to make informed decisions.”[1] Trade and Industry Associations can be the most reliable source for data and information. They can also be used to help locate potential customers, suppliers, or opportunities to attend trade shows or festivals.
                                                    Florida Film Festival
The Florida Film Festival  held April 5 -15, 2013, in Winter Park, Florida was a smashing success for the film industry. Full Sail University had the prestigious responsibility of hosting this year 22nd  Annual Event. Seen Above.

As the industry in Florida has been recognized as one of the largest in the United States.  The year round warm weather of Florida has attracted such hit films as Bad Boys I and II,  2 Fast 2 Furious, and the Punisher. Opportunities like the film festival can serve to persuade critical decision making, such as the location for the production of a film. The accomplishments of the recent Festival symbolize a growing trend in the Florida Film Industry.

In recent years more attraction has been shifting away from Miami and stimulated towards central Florida, including Tampa and Orlando areas.  Many of the States are charged with the duty of creating attractive programs that would stimulate the financial growth of the area.

In California, one program of the CA Film Commission offers tax incentives to attract film developers. This helps maintain good jobs within the Golden State. CA Gov. Brown signed to extend the bill on August 31, 2012.  Research shows results were achieved, but some say the outcomes fall short of what was hoped. Writer for the Los Angeles Times, Richard Verrier believes the reason the state gets few takers for relocation. Verrier says “Although California offers a higher tax credit for relocating television series (25% of qualified expenses compared with 20% for other types of productions), the state gets relatively few takers because of the program's limited funding and competition from more than 40 states that offer tax breaks.”

The Tampa Bay Film Commission successfully meets the demand to offer programs that attract projects which stimulate financial growth. The recent efforts have been effective with such hits like Dolphin Tale, Magic Mike and Spring Breakers and other projects to the area. The hope is to build a "job-creating and revenue-producing organization" by 2013.

In summary, Trade and Industry Associations can be a lead to potent information for business strategy and implementation. Moreover, the vital connections can help an artist's visions go viral.

Animation Art Educates

Can animated art be used as a platform to promote success for others?

This blogs shares research from the popular TED.com talks by speaker, Ken Robinson: Changing education paradigms. TED Ideas Worth Spreading can be found in the link below,

http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_changing_education_paradigms.html

Robinson believes it is time to change the education paradigm. In his Ted talk, he infers that what’s happening in the current education system is, “ teachers are trying to meet the future by doing what the did in the past. Along the way,  they are alienating kids that do not see any purpose in going to school.” His talk depicts the fundamental philosophies as contemporary only during the time which American public school systems were originally being design. By defining the intellectual culture of enlightenment during the era of the industrial revolution, Robinson creates a compelling argument that the current system is deemed to be conceived for a different age.  His talk is created to persuade the audience that this perception is no longer relative in modern society.

Below is a video showing how Robinson draws the picture out using visual images for the duration of his entire TED talk, creating a fascinating use of art that supports his message. His methods exhibit one solution to effectually challenge the overall assumption that Robinson makes which is, “we should not be putting them to sleep, and we should be waking them up to what they have inside them selves.” In my opinion, Robinson proves himself with captivating force using words and images to uphold his notions.

During this Ted Talk, Robinson effectively demonstrated throughout the core of his report facts that define the current education system as one which creates chaos. His talk says, according to current perceptions,  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is considered an in school epidemic. Robinson uses humor to challenge the contemporary view.  He draws a map of the U. S. and shows the epidemic of ADHD as a increasing problem, when travel east across the country.

With animation and art, e is able to show persuading statistical analysis that prove “ADHD is not an epidemic," while stimulating laughter in the audience.  When Robinson makes the point, “Art” is poised as a victim of such present-day mentality, I have to agree with his opinion. He drives the point home by defining art, as an example of methods that promote divergent thinking. He further clarifies divergent as an essential capacity for creativity, not a synonym to creativity.

One celebrity whose brand is align with Robinson's paradigm that art promotes divergent thinking is Roma Downey. She is best known for her role in the TV mini-series  “Touched by an Angel”.

Roma Downy was inspired to promote a tour for her animated children’s series “Little Angels."  Seen here in this video below is a short exert of this platform.

The legendary Oprah Winfrey once advised writer, producer Tyler Perry that " writing can be cathartic." * As a person who has used writing as a mere hobby for years, I am have began to  use the creativity in writing to work through difficulties. Ultimately, I begin compiling my writing into books, movies, and plays . While my overarching goal in the world of entertainment is to work as a film producer, I am currently challenged to design a micro business concept that is more manageable and easily achieved.

As a student of Full Sail University, learners are taught the benefit derived by the law of contracting when building your brand. In the book, The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding, authors Ries and Ries teach, "Good things happen when you contract your brand rather than expand it."* As I work on a micro project to use animated art as a comedic weapon for addressing sensitive subjects, good things are happening. I am currently writing my script for a mini series to support the reduction of violence in education, as the narrowed focus of a broader plan. I am emboldened by the request for proposal to present my work as a mini DVD series to the public school system and the government.  From this work, I seek to create amazing platforms for those interested in graphic design, voice overs and developing sound tracks. My work will serve to assist artist to take their vision to the next level.

In summary, I am moved by the fact that art generates enough passion to stimulate changing paradigms in education systems and well as other domains.  The work of Roma Downey to use animated art, media and entertainment as a powerful tool that promotes faith based learning offers a brilliant complement to Robinson’s concept .  It is my goal to match their wisdom by building my brand in the entertainment industry through the use of animated art.
